Location

Paris's 2nd arrondissement dates from the capital's expansion during the 15th and 16th centuries. However, the earliest urban residences date from the 14th century. Indeed, the wall of Charles V (1371-1380) stretched all the way to the Rue d'Aboukir. During the 16th century, the city extended up until today's Grands Boulevards, the wall of Louis XIII (1617-1643). Today, the principal buildings are the historical Paris Stock Exchange and the Bibliothèque Nationale ("National Library"). Principal monuments and sites: The Palais Brongniart, the Opéra Comique, the headquarters of Crédit Lyonnais and the Agence France Presse ("French Press Agency"), the Montorgueil Quarter, Le Sentier, etc.
